\"InstitutoAprendimos muchas cosas nuevas en nuestra primera semana del Instituto de Verano, pero lo que me pareci\u00f3 realmente interesante fue cuando hicimos la visita guiada a la refiner\u00eda de Richmond. Denny Larson, de Global Community Monitor, nuestro gu\u00eda, me lleg\u00f3 al coraz\u00f3n con sus palabras. Todos estos edificios peligrosos estaban situados justo al lado de las casas y nadie hac\u00eda nada al respecto. Recuerdo que habl\u00f3 de una nube de gas que se abalanz\u00f3 sobre la gente y llev\u00f3 a muchos de ellos al hospital, matando a familias, madres, padres, hermanas y hermanos y, sin embargo, los edificios segu\u00edan sin derribarse.<\/p>\n

Adem\u00e1s, estos lugares t\u00f3xicos se encontraban principalmente en North Richmond (donde residen la mayor\u00eda de los residentes de color con bajos ingresos). Cuando entres en Point Richmond (donde est\u00e1n todos los residentes ricos) te dar\u00e1s cuenta de que no hay deterioro, ni carros cisterna, ni edificios t\u00f3xicos alrededor, ni f\u00e1bricas, s\u00f3lo barrios limpios y bonitos. Vivo en una sociedad empobrecida donde la gente se trata menos que ellos y destrozan a los dem\u00e1s. Piensan, \u00bfpor qu\u00e9 preocuparse por algo que ya est\u00e1 roto? Todos somos humanos, todos merecemos un trato justo.<\/p>\n

Tambi\u00e9n aprend\u00ed a relacionarme con mis compa\u00f1eros. A aprender cosas nuevas sobre los dem\u00e1s, a gastar bromas, a re\u00edrme y a ser yo misma. Al principio fue muy inc\u00f3modo, \u00bfqu\u00e9 esperabas? En cuanto pas\u00f3 el primer d\u00eda, el muro que hab\u00edamos construido se derrumb\u00f3. La verdad es que echo de menos a todo el mundo cuando estoy de pr\u00e1cticas. He llegado a querer a mis amigos y me alegro mucho de que nos hayamos hecho \u00edntimos.
