In fact, in this most recent grantmaking cycle, we are funding a partnership between longtime Rose partner\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/pugetsoundkeeper.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Puget Soundkeeper<\/a>\u00a0and longtime grantee\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/deschutesestuary.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Deschutes Estuary Restoration Team (DERT)<\/a>, a group that has focused on protection, restoration, and community education in the Deschutes Estuary.\u00a0<strong>And the latest exciting news \u2014\u00a0DERT is planning to grow into a new role in the region, to become a waterkeeper in the South Puget Sound!<\/strong>\u00a0Their grant from the Rose Foundation\u00a0<strong>teams up with Puget Soundkeeper<\/strong>\u00a0to provide the\u00a0<strong>programmatic support<\/strong>\u00a0DERT needs to make this transition, including\u00a0<strong>training, resources, and logistical support as it joins the waterkeeper network!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"DERT\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/DERT-Joel-Kluger-4.jpg\" alt=\"DERT\" width=\"250\" height=\"188\" align=\"left\" border=\"0\" hspace=\"15\" vspace=\"20\" \/>\"<em>The presence of a new actor monitoring and enforcing the Clean Water Act and stormwater policies creates a clean, healthy watershed and community locally. It also signals to polluters that groups are watching and ensuring that everyone has access to clean water. And the Rose Foundation\u2019s ability to not only partner with various waterkeepers, but also fund their projects with a wide variety of strategies is a win for clean water everywhere.<\/em>\"<br \/>\n\u2014 Laura Fernandez, Program Officer<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The Rose Foundation has a<strong>\u00a0history of supporting the development of new and existing waterkeepers in the Pacific Northwest.<\/strong>\u00a0For example, our\u00a0<a href=\"\/es\/the-mike-chappell-fund-for-the-spokane-river\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mike Chappell Fund for the Spokane River<\/a>\u00a0supported\u00a0<strong>Protecci\u00f3n del r\u00edo Columbia<\/strong>\u2019s Toxics Reduction Project. We also supported the new Twin Harbors Waterkeeper out on the Washington coast in Grays Harbor, and our\u00a0<a href=\"\/es\/fondo-de-productos-de-consumo\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Fondo de Productos de Consumo<\/a>\u00a0is supporting\u00a0<strong>Puget Soundkeeper<\/strong>\u2019s Clean Water Regulation &amp; Enforcement Project;\u00a0<strong>Protecci\u00f3n del r\u00edo Columbia<\/strong>\u2019s Stopping Toxics Pollution Project; and\u00a0<strong>Vigilantes del r\u00edo Snake<\/strong>\u2019s work to protect youth from toxic waterways. Other grants supported volunteer-based community science to collect water quality data in Clallam, King, Kitsap, Pierce, and Snohomish counties.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong>We are proud to support the growing network of waterkeepers<\/strong>\u00a0in the Pacific Northwest and beyond.
