Mad River Alliance’s Water Quality Monitoring Project (MRWQMP) and Temperature Monitoring Study (TMS) put citizens in touch with the Mad River, the source of water for approximately 88,000 Humboldt County residents. The MRWQMP trains teams of citizen scientists to collect, test, record, and share Mad River water quality data results with the public, agencies, and land managers. The TMS works with other agencies to collect, record, and share Mad River temperature data results with the public, agencies, and land managers. Ongoing monitoring provides a feedback loop so managers can understand how practices are effective in reducing negative impacts. This monitoring will help managers improve upon practices and improve water quality over time.
