This project will support the efforts of a coalition led the Karuk Tribe to change California law to remove barriers to implementing Wildlands fire management activities. These barriers include inadequate funding for Tribal programs, liability laws affecting burn bosses and organizations performing prescribed burns, and unintended consequences associated with Clean Air Act implementation. These barriers prevent Tribes, ranchers, local firesafe councils and other entities from developing and implementing prescribed burns and other activities necessary to manage fuel loads on public and private lands throughout the state.
