Pollutants in San Francisco Bay disproportionately threaten disadvantaged communities who consume higher amounts of contaminated, self- caught fish out of economic need or cultural tradition. Established cleanup goals will not protect them because subsistence fishing is not recognized among the Bay’s beneficial uses. Clean Water Fund (CWF) seeks a one-year grant to drive greater protections by engaging impacted communities and engaging with the SF Bay Regional Board’s Triennial Review process to collect data and advance designating the Bay as supporting subsistence fishing and tribal culture.
