TrashBlitz evaluates plastic pollution in the watershed, and nearshore environments of Los Angeles using citizen science, creating a toolkit and results that inform the public and city decision/policymakers. This project will be piloted in 2019, and will test the project’s feasibility for volunteers to collect baseline information of their city’s plastic pollution footprint as well as test the sampling methodology. TrashBlitz serves to act as replicable model for other cities, to facilitate comparisons and better mitigate plastic pollution with prescribed solutions for their city/region.
