In August, the Rose Foundation received $3 million from a settlement between the Center for Biological Diversity and Placer Ranch Inc. $1 million was specifically endowed to the Wildlands Conservancy (TWC) to complete a major land acquisition project. TWC will use the funds to conserve, protect, and restore the historic Dean Witter Lone Pine Ranch, a 29,600-acre property that includes over 18 miles of the “Grand Canyon” of the Eel River
Our New Voices Are Rising program is introducing a new program this fall. Titled the Youth Air Quality Task Force, the program takes place over 6 weeks and focuses on the issue areas of air quality, health risks, and utility advocacy.

This year’s film fest showcases over 25 films of grassroots activism and community resilience. These stories speak to the powerful work of communities across the country, including some of our own Rose Foundation grantees. We are proud to spotlight the following grantees featured in our 2021 Film Fest.
This September marks the 10th anniversary of the largest dam removal in history: the Elwha River Restoration Project. We are proud to commemorate this moment at our 2021 Film Fest, by screening two documentaries: Return of the River and Think Like a Scientist: Renewal; that explore this historic project and its ecological and cultural significance. These two films as well as Midori Farm were created by the award-winning documentary filmmaker, Jessica Plumb. We are fortunate to have had the opportunity to interview Jessica for this month’s Meet the Rose Community feature.
The New Voices Community Summit in July marked the end of the Summer Climate Justice Leadership Academy. We were inspired by the passion our Summer Academy participants showed when sharing about the local climate justice issues they learned over the 6-week program.
