Announcing the 2017 GTI Grantees
Grassroots environmental groups often overflow with passion, but struggle to get access to tech support, HR and other skills. The GTI helps grassroots organizations gain access to skills that help them expand to act as greater agents of change. Brown Girl Surf, Farms to Grow, Growing Together, Conservation Action Fund for Education, and SPAWNERS have all been selected to take part in the Grassroots Training Institute GTI.
Brown Girl Surf helps amplify the voices of women of color in the surfing community. The organization also makes surfing more accessible to women and fosters intelligent stewardship of the ocean.
Farms to Grow dedicates itself to supporting Black farmers around the country and helping farmers that belong to minority groups. By giving farmers a helping hand, Farms to Grow helps increase access to healthy food and helps inspire new generations of farmers.
Conservation Action Fund for Education (CAFE)
Through workshops and public forums, CAFE empowers citizens to take action on issues of sustainability. CAFE educates the public about water use, building codes, housing affordability and more.
Planting fruit trees in urban areas, Growing Together builds community spirit and provides access to healthy food. Growing Together also offers training to community members who want to plant their own urban forests.
SPAWNERS dedicates itself to protecting San Francisco Bay watersheds, while promoting grassroots organizations and nurturing new leaders. Students, teachers and volunteers get a chance to learn how to preserve water resources.
