2020: Over $2.5 Mill in Environmental & Consumer Rights Grants

In the second half of 2020, and in the midst of a world health crisis, the Rose Foundation continued our community grantmaking. Environmental mitigation payments and cy pres enabled the Foundation to award over $1 Million in grants for community resilience-oriented work that benefits water sources, the natural environment, and consumer rights; this brings our total 2020 settlement-enabled grant awards to $2.5 Million! Grants awarded from July through December address water issues as they relate to water quality, watershed protection, green infrastructure, youth development, and environmental justice. Project activities include community monitoring, habitat restoration, and water conservation, as well as strategies promoting justice and equity through legal advocacy and community campaigns. Finally, as a result of legal action by the Wild Fish Conservancy, we launched the first cycle of the newly created Orca Fund, which supports efforts related to the protection of the endangered Southern Resident Orcas in their home waters of Puget Sound and the Salish Sea.
