Grantmakers share their experiences in and importance of building the capacity of small and emerging organizations that serve low-income communities and communities of color. As part of the Community Leadership Project, a joint effort funded by The David and Lucile Packard, James Irvine, and William and Flora Hewlett foundations, several of the regranting organizations (including Rose Foundation) engaged in a learning circle to share our experiences in building the capacity of small and emerging organizations. In November 2011, we came together for a deeper conversation exploring our role as regrantors and the value we bring to the process, our victories and challenges, and the trends we see in providing effective capacity building in low-income communities and communities of color. This white paper is a result of that conversation.
